About kaPHÉ
My name is Kathy Jones and I have a passion for pottery reflecting the Arts and Crafts Movement. I have always had an intristict love for the art and architecture of this period, as well as Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Born and raised Kathleen Phelan (ka-PHÉ) in Seattle Washington, I was drawn
to the cornucopia of art and architecture that the area had to offer. I attended John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Burien, Washington. In that time, my interests expanded to early poster art and various antique forms while embracing drawing, sculpting, and oil painting. Landing in Juneau Alaska, I felt the flora and landscape there could only be expressed in watercolors. Later, in San Diego, California, I attended Southwestern College and prepared for life in the business world. In Bath, Maine I became a self-taught computer programmer and network administrator. I then returned to Juneau and worked in the world of information technology for close to 30 years overall. Near my last six years in Juneau, while still working full time, I created, owned, and managed Red Onion Spice & Tea Company. At last retiring and living in Nevada I have the time express my love of art in one single creative outlet;pottery.
Join me in my journey to rediscover great designs and translate them into new designs or those that pay homage to the originals. As I can’t take myself too seriously, you may find various pieces where the pottery gods have decided what to do with my hands!
