Hello! Nice to meet you. My name is Kathy Jones and I love to make art pottery.
kaPHÉ Pottery creates handcrafted pottery for your home. I specialize in my own designs which reflect the Arts & Crafts period.
I began pottery in 2018. Before then, my work was limited to drawing and watercolors due to space and time. When I retired in late 2017 I could finally throw myself into the work I always wanted to do, art pottery.
Growing up in Seattle, Washington I was always attracted to the architecture there. My first impressions were mostly of the art deco period. It was not until my hands touched clay in 2018 that I found myself fascinated with craftsman ideals and styles of the Arts and Crafts period where William Morris stated, “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful”. I believe we are in a period again where hand craftsmanship is undergoing a revival of appreciation. Nothing tugs us back to reality more than nature and art.
My work is part of the permanent collection at the Vasefinder Museum in Carson City, Nevada. New work is available at the Charlie B Gallery, Carson City, Nevada. My first juried showing was at the Prism Art Gallery in Minden, Nevada in 2019. My techniques are primarily hand throwing, but can include handbuilding, carving, and sculpting. I am currently continuing studies in glaze chemistry. I took a course in stained glass in February 2023 as I have a goal to incorporate the two mediums as in Fulper lamps.
